The Board is responsible for the development of strategic direction for integrated management of land and water resources in the region and ultimately for all functions undertaken by the Mallee Catchment Management Authority, including governance and reporting to the Minister.

Chair: Ms Sharyon Peart

Sharyon PeartSharyon runs her own business in Mildura and has vast experience in small business management, local government, community consultation, governance and people management.

Sharyon was appointed Chair of the Mallee CMA Board in 2011 and her representation portfolio includes:

  • Chair - Mallee CMA Aboriginal Reference Group;
  • Member - Mallee CMA Remuneration Committee.

Deputy Chair: Dr John Cooke

John CookeDr John Cooke served as an extension officer, research scientist, manager and internal consultant for forty years before retiring in 2013. John was born in Ouyen and grew up on a Mallee wheat-sheep farm.

As a scientist John led the investigations of tillage systems for the red brown soils and mallee soils of northern Victoria. He was the lead or sole author of 5-refereed papers, and numerous conference papers.

As a manager, he had responsibility for land protection in the Mallee and for some key issues across the north of Victoria, and significant input to land and water management across the southern Murray Darling Basin.

John's involvement in waterway management has covered issues relevant to land tenure, reclamation, water quality and salinity, habitat protection and deliberate watering of wetlands.

John's current roles include:

  • Member - Mallee CMA Water Technical Advisory Committee;
  • Member - Mallee CMA Land Technical Advisory Committee;
  • Member - Mallee CMA Salinity Accountability Advisory Committee.

Member: Mr Tony Martin

Tony MartinTony is a horticulturist in the pumped irrigation district of Merbein.

Tony is also the Mallee CMA Board representative on the Land and Water Management Plan Project Steering Committee.

Tony is a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and has been involved in natural resource management issues not only in the Mallee but within the Murray-Darling Basin for seventeen years.

He represents the Mallee CMA in the following ways:

  • Member (Observer) - Mallee CMA Audit Committee;
  • Member - Mallee CMA Land and Water Advisory Committee;
  • Member - Mallee CMA Salinity Accountability Advisory Committee;
  • Member – Murray Darling Basin Authority Community Committee;
  • Director – Mildura Development Corporation.

Member: Mr John Arnold

JohnArnold  cropped.jpgJohn has been a dried fruit and citrus grower for twenty-seven years, and for sixteen operated a manufacturing business.

John is a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and has served on a number of organisations in the Mildura and Merbein community. 

He is currently a Councillor with the Mildura Rural City Council where he was elected in 2003.  He has served four terms as Mayor.

John was appointed to the Mallee CMA Board in July 2009, his representation includes:

  • Chair - Mallee CMA Audit Committee;
  • Member - Tri-State Technical Sub-committee. 

Member: Ms Allison McTaggart

Allison McTaggartAllison holds a Bachelor of Arts (Management Communication), Associate Diploma (Animal Production). Allison is currently employed on a part time basis as Manager Communication and Industry Analysis at the Australian Table Grape Association, is the principal consultant at Allison McTaggart and Associates.

Background includes acting General Manager Mallee Sustainable Farming, ten years as Human Resource Manager with agribusiness company Tandou Limited, Sunraysia TAFE in various administrative and teaching roles and the former Department of Agriculture as a Technical Officer in table grape production.

Allison is a current Director of Western Murray Irrigation in NSW and GM Richardson Pty Ltd a family owned and operated earthmoving business. Former director of Lower Murray Water, Lower Murray Darling CMA, Murray Darling Association and the Mildura Private Hospital.

Current member of the Human Resource Institute and Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
